Nasty Compunction Album Tracks
Inspirations, Style and influences.
SIDE 1
1. Bad Life.
Originally by the artist Sigrid and the alt rock band Bring Me the Horizon. Listening to the original arrangement sparked a thought as to what it would sound like with a rolling reggae bass line behind it and brass accompaniment added. Still the same thoughtful lyrics but with a touch more light and hope added to the song.
2. Life’s A Show.
The inspiration came from the band Talk Talk Life’s What You Make It along with the 1988 Ellis Beggs and Howard song Big Bubbles, No Troubles. Both tracks have bass lines that are prominent through the songs while the guitar solo was driven by an admiration of Def Leppards twin guitars working off each other. The lyrics are a simple message, don’t lose faith in yourself.
3. Conscience Denial.
Bob Marley is front and centre for this one. Totally inspired by how he could make the mightiest of men stop and have a thought for his fellow man. The fact that so many years after his death, the troubles of back then are still here today says we still haven’t heeded the message. The opening line for the track sets the level and reggae driven style of it add in the statement and answer chorus it is 100 percent a tribute to how Bob saw the world.
4. I wish I Was The Rain.
A Back to front song in arrangement with the verse being more hard driven than chorus. It is written from the point of view of an unrequited but positive love. Sometimes what we really need is right in front of us, but we choose not to see it.
5. Nasty Compunction.
The inoffensive instrumental opening belies the darkness of the lyrics which follow.
A slice of 80’s style reggae followed by a caustic opening chorus. The use of the ‘F’ word is not meant to shock as more of a way of explaining how much stupidness in a relationship we are prepared to take before we finally break.
6. Talking With You.
Style best described as pop, rock, classical and reggae all rolled into one. The verses are true statements as to life experiences which like history always repeat. The Bass line is inspired by John Taylor of Duran Duran especially the third verse drop in.
